AssistHers provides an organized response
to lesbian health needs in the Greater Houston area. We provide direct
care to 25 women through the volunteer work of close to 100 volunteers who
compose care teams. Each team can give emotional support , friendly
visiting, meal delivery, pet care, errand running, transportation for
medical and social service appointments and other individualized care. The
program was expanded in 2002 to include taxi vouchers for medical/social
service appointments. Client health issues run the gamut from
osteoarthritis to cancer.
