About the Center

The Center is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization located at the Historic Dow School (Silver Street entrance) in the Old Sixth Ward Historic District. The address is 1900 Kane Street, Houston, Texas 77007 and we can be reached at 713-524-3814. The board of directors and other volunteers are focused on serving the community in new and innovative ways as the organization prepares for its fifteenth anniversary year in 2011.

Mission Statement

The mission is to empower, educate, and nurture individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, generating a sense of community by providing for their social, emotional, and physical well being.

The Center has the following goals:

  • To serve as an affordable, accessible facility in which to hold meetings and events
  • To enable organizations to form, grow, and thrive
  • To be a clearinghouse of information on community organizations and services
  • To provide office space to organizations and businesses
  • To offer a place for socializing in a positive environment
  • To host informational and educational discussions on relevant issues
  • To offer a venue for the arts and cultural expression
  • To promote diversity, dialogue, and collaboration among different aspects of the community
